Meet our newest featured artist, Shaunie!
Q: Describe the first time that you knew creating art was something you had to do.
A: I've always enjoyed creating art- I learned during the pandemic that it was something that was especially healing for me and others.
Q: When did you first consider yourself an artist?
A: As a kid- as long as I can remember people told me I was good at making art.

Q: What are you trying to communicate with your art?
A: I am trying to celebrate the existence of diverse populations of people.
Q: Describe your favorite piece you created and why. Describe your worst piece you created and how you learned from it.
A: My piece "We Are Stardust" is my favorite piece because I was able to express my experience in a way that felt very therapeutic and captured the beauty that I was striving for. I don't necessarily have a "worst" piece, I grow with each new creation. I have love for the experience in all of them.
Q: What role does art have in our society and culture?
A: Art is social justice, it is medicine, it is history.
Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as an artist? What’s the best piece of advice you’ve given?
A: Best piece of advice- always be creating, practice makes better. Best advice I've given- art is not something that is good or bad, as long as its a release for you and comes from the heart thats all that matters.
